From 1965 to 1971, James Tenney composed the Postal Pieces, a collection of scores written on the back of postcards composed for and dedicated to friends. In 2020, Jennifer Bewerse began writing postal pieces inspired by Tenney’s project as a way to create art and keep in touch with friends during the pandemic. Southland Ensemble, Los Angeles’s indispensable proponents of contemporary music, presents a concert of solos from Tenney’s Postal Pieces alongside solos from Bewerse’s postal pieces, including several world premieres.
